A Champions League final with two Champions

Category: Champions League, Soccer | Wednesday 27th May 2009 @ 1924

In little less than 90 minutes, an absolutely spectacular Champions League final will kick off at Olimpico in Roma. Barcelona and Manchester United are arguably the two best clubs in the world this season, and both became champions of their respective leagues.

This is, however, very rare today. The last time this happened in a Champions League final was in - 1999. Not since that classic final, when Man United turned a 1-2 deficit into a 3-2 victory in stoppage time, has two national champions squared off in the most profilic encounter in club football.

That is quite interesting.

Tonight: I hope for a clear Barcelona victory (3-0 with a Henry hattrick would be nice). But I fear that Barcelona will face the same problems as they did in London against Chelsea in the 2nd semifinal leg. Man United’s solid defence will be very hard to penetrate for Barca, and their injury- and suspension-struck defence look shaky.

Final result? 2-1 for United is a reasonable guess.
